Hello!

Hello, World! (And Hello, Reno!)

Every blog has to start somewhere, and tradition says the first post should be called “Hello World.” Who am I to argue with tradition? So — hello, world. And more importantly, hello, Reno.

I’m Bill McMaken, a real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Drysdale Properties, right here in Reno, Nevada. This blog is where I’ll share what I’m seeing in the Northern Nevada market, tips for buyers (especially first-timers) and sellers, neighborhood spotlights, and the occasional story from the road — because if you’ve spent any time touring homes, you know there’s always a story.

A Little About Me

Before real estate, I spent my career in IT project management. I’m PMP certified, which is a fancy way of saying I’ve made a profession out of keeping complicated projects on schedule, on budget, and out of the ditch. It turns out that’s remarkably good training for real estate. Buying a home is, at its heart, a project — one with deadlines, moving parts, paperwork, and a dozen people who all need to be on the same page at the same time. I bring that project manager’s discipline to every transaction: clear communication, no surprises, and a plan for what happens next at every step.

Why Buyers — Especially First-Time Buyers

There’s nothing quite like the moment someone gets the keys to their first home. It’s equal parts excitement and “wait, I actually own this?” — and getting people to that moment is my favorite part of this job.

I work with buyers of all kinds, but I have a soft spot for first-time home buyers. The process can feel overwhelming from the outside: pre-approvals, inspections, appraisals, closing costs, and a vocabulary that seems designed to confuse. My job is to translate all of that into plain English, keep the process organized, and make sure you never feel like you’re navigating it alone. There are no silly questions here — only the ones you’ll be glad you asked.

Why Sellers

Selling a home is a project too — and arguably one with even more moving parts: preparing the home, pricing it right, marketing it well, and managing showings, offers, and negotiations all the way to a smooth closing. That’s exactly the kind of multi-step, deadline-driven work my project management background was built for.

When you list with me, you get a clear plan from day one: what we’ll do to get your home market-ready, how we’ll price it based on real Northern Nevada data (not wishful thinking), and how we’ll market it to reach the right buyers. And because I work with buyers every day, I know what today’s buyers are looking for and what makes them fall in love with a home — insight that goes straight into how we present yours. Add in the reach and reputation of the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices name, and your home gets the showcase it deserves.

Why Reno

I sell all around Northern Nevada, but I’m especially at home in Northwest Reno, Midtown, and the Mayberry–Highland Park area. Each one has its own personality — from Midtown’s murals and local eats to the tree-lined streets and river access on the west side. One of the things I love about this region is that there really is a neighborhood for everyone; part of the fun is helping you find yours.

The Biggest Little City has been growing and changing fast, and I’ll use this space to keep you up to date on what that means for buyers and sellers — market trends, new listings worth a look, and the local knowledge that doesn’t show up in an online listing.

Let’s Talk

Whether you’re six months from buying, just starting to daydream while scrolling listings at midnight (we’ve all been there), or ready to make a move now, I’d love to chat. No pressure, no jargon — just a conversation about your goals.

You can reach me at (775) 221-5782. I look forward to meeting you — and welcome to the blog!
